Syntax check failed, or string is too long :(
Type in a MIDI Ditty (or use this fun tool 🎼) and choose a sequence of transformations to get back a new ditty. Yee-haw! Here are the transformations you can apply right now:
The identity transformation. Boring, yeah, but it's useful!
Takes your ditty and syalp ti sdrawckab. Especially dramatic with heavy metal. 🤘
Flips the tune over its middle point. Bach loved this one! 🎹
Mixes up the notes randomly. Try this with an arpeggio or a scale to generate a random melody.
Keep the durations the same, but move the pitches one note to the left. In the result, the old second pitch is the new first pitch and the old first pitch is the new last pitch. 🎡 (Rests count as pitches here.)
After the functions have been applied, you can transpose the result by some number of semitones (half-steps). Negative numbers transpose down, positive ones transpose up. Note: MDN has a limited range. If you try to transpose the tune too much, you'll go out of the range. Right now the transpose function will fail silently in this case and leave your tune unchanged.
MIDI Ditty Notation is a succinct way to communicate little monophonic tunes. It's very human-writeable, but not very human-readable. That's okay, though; it was invented as a method for Twitter bots to communicate with each other. You can learn how to use the notation by reading its specification (and some guiding philosophy) at mididittybot.tumblr.com. Enjoy your dittying, and please send your suggestions on Twitter!
